A Few Questions / Suggestions

Post by MITeacher »

Hi,

Just a few questions / suggestions, nothing too important.

1. What is the best way to backup everything on the server. Is there anyway to zip up everything? Better yet is there an automated way to zip up everything and mail it to an offsite account every X days? Just wondering.

2. Is there any possibility to rename the servers to something besides wwwx.prioritycolo.com? Maybe a suggestion for future servers, using a generic name.

And thats about it. Keep up the great work.

Hi there Matt,

Server backups are done weekly on our end, and we also export the complete backups offsite once a month. Theres no really easy way to dump out backups for resellers quite honestly, new WHM functionality provides limited backup/file moving support for resold accounts, but i've yet to touch it, so i cant say if it works well or not.

As for new server hostnames, we do as much as reasonably possible to hide the hostnames, but we drew the line at the server hostname, as people can still find us on the traceroute, ip blocks, reverse dns, etc. Also, changing the hostname makes abuse a LOT harder to track, which is something we want to avoid :). Only change we intend to look into is the XSkin panel as it displays the hostname where it's not really necessary.
