Please be advised of the following maintenance window:
Maintenance Window: Saturday April 6th, 12:01am - 3:00am Eastern Time
Facility: Tor1 - 151 Front street west
Affected Device(s): www2.pcdc.net, www3.pcdc.net
Affected Customers: Shared/Reseller hosting customers
Service Impacting: Yes - Software upgrade, which may require user intervention/user script updates.
We will be performing much needed updates to both PHP and MySQL. PHP will be updated from the current 5.6 to PHP 7.2 (as the system default), with PHP 7.1 & 7.3 also supported VIA MultiPHP manager (accessible in the user-level control panel [CPanel]). PHP 5.6 & 7.0 will no longer be supported on the reseller servers, as they are both officially EOS/EOL (End of Support/End of Life), and no longer receiving patches, security updates, etc.
MySQL will be updated from version 5.6, to MariaDB 10.3 (stable). MariaDB from the user perspective is identical to MySQL (including system commands/calls, SQL syntax, general compatibility, etc.), it's simply the commercially supported, community developed fork of the MySQL server, which was branched off in 2009 (and is now the default/officially supported SQL server for various linux flavors, including CentOS, Redhat, etc.).
MariaDB is developed by the original MySQL development team, and enjoys more consistent development, feature additions, and performance improvements in comparison to MySQL. More information (for those curious) can be found at: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MariaDB
We will also be using this maintenance window to reboot both servers to apply necessary kernel updates.
Considering PHP 7.1 (oldest supported fall-back PHP version) has been out since Dec-2016, and MariaDB 10.3 (current/stable) has been out since Apr-2017, customers should not have any difficulty in terms of compatibility with any current commercial scripts/software packages/etc. Customers with custom built PHP based websites may want to check with their developers to ensure compatibility with current PHP versions.
