Scheduled dist02.tor1 Network maintenance - 01-Feb-2020

Post by porcupine »

Hi Folks,

Please be advised of the following maintenance window:

Maintenance Window: Saturday February 1st, 2020, 12:01am - 2:00am Eastern Time.
Facility: Tor1
Affected Device(s): dist02.tor1
Affected Customers: Customers who are directly connected to the dist02.tor1 router
Service Impacting: Yes - Customers physically connected to the dist02.tor1 router will see services impacted during this maintenance window. This maintenance activity is not expected to significantly impact customers whose equipment is not directly connected to the dist02.tor1 router.

Customers can determine if they're directly connected to the dist02.tor1 distribution router by inspecting their MRTG (bandwidth) graphs for the word/label "dist02.tor1" in their URL.

Details: We will be replacing the supervisor card in the dist02.tor1 distribution router. The card in question has already been tested in our test chassis, but will need to be fully reconfigured upon insertion into dist02.tor1. During this time, several routing tweaks to the network will also be applied, as the hardware capabilities & configuration will have changed.

This maintenance is expected to impact customers who are physically/directly connected to the dist02.tor1 distribution router. For the remainder of the customer base, while we do not expect considerable impact from this work, this maintenance window should be considered precautionary, as changes are being made within the networks distribution layer.

Please note that customers connected to other distribution devices in the Tor1 facility (IE: dist01.tor1) may experience short periods of packet loss/jitter/etc. as BGP sessions (between dist01.tor1 and dist02.tor1) are torn-down/re-established, and routes/paths re-converge during the maintenance work. That said, we will endeavour to avoid any such impact as best possible. Customers in the Tor2 facility should not see any impact to their services as a result of said maintenance.

While the maintenance window in question is approximately 2 hours long to allow staff time to stage/prep/test/etc., we estimate the actual service impact will be somewhere between 10 and 15 minutes total over the course of 1-2 brief interruptions.
