Scheduled tor1 core network maintenance - 03-Dec-2021

Post by porcupine »

Hi Folks,

Please be advised of the following maintenance window:

Maintenance Window: Friday December 3rd, 2021 - 11:00pm - 2:00am Eastern time
Facility: Tor1
Affected Device(s): Tor1 core network
Affected Customers: General network
Service Impacting: Yes - The work in question will have the potential to cause several small outages/connectivity drops.

Details: We will be replacing the [old] core02.tor1 router, and moving directly connected customers, over to the new core02.tor1 router. At this time, we intend to relocate all remaining point to point, and inter-switch links connected to the old core02.tor1 router, as well as re-connecting our Level3 transit, and Rogers/Cogeco private peering sessions.

We will also be performing various network clean-up tasks, several of which had been cancelled during the previous core01.tor1 replacement maintenance, due to the unexpected failure of the [old] core02.tor1 router during said event.

Upon completion of this maintenance window, we hope to have both old tor1 core routers either fully isolated, or fully removed from the production network, moving the Tor1 facility away from the Cisco 7600 platform, and clearing out a number of back-logged/half finished items from previous incidents/maintenance periods/etc.

As always, we will be carefully performing the maintenance work in question, and will use every reasonable measure to attempt to mitigate any unnecessary outages/incidents/etc., though with the extensive work being planned, we do expect to see some disruptions as a substantial portion of the core is shuffled around/new links are deployed/etc.

While the maintenance window in question is 3 hours long to allow staff time to prep/test/etc., we expect actual interruptions in connectivity to be limited to several substantially shorter events.
