02-Sep-2004 APC Outage (APC-A-2-3, APC-A-2-1, APC-B-2-2)

Post by porcupine »

Hi guys,

Unfortunatly we managed to blow the breaker the following APC's resided on, resulting in a power outage for any attached servers:

APC-A-2-3
APC-A-2-1
APC-B-2-2

We've reset the circuit, and power has been restored to the APC. All servers were checked out, and the total downtime was found to be 11 minutes average (as it took a few minutes for the servers to power up, not to mention a few minutes to notice the initial problem).

This was unfortunatly the event of plugging a small portable UPS into the APC (1.5KVA). We use UPS's on our "crash carts" to ensure we're able to provide convinient and quick console services for onsite customers, and to be allow them to move around as necessary. Once someones done with a cart, it's typically returned to one of the outlets to be recharged until the next mobile use. Typically we plug this one into APC-B-2-2, but have never had this issue before.

As such, we'll obviously be finding a new place to "recharge" our crash cart(s). I appologise for any inconvinience this has caused. I've checked the power circuit, and it's back down to its regular 14.0 (of 20.0) amps of usage.
