16-Apr-2005 - 12:00 - 4:00pm MSFC01 Scheduled Maintenance

Post by porcupine »

Hi guys,

Since the emergency reload did not perform as well as anticipated on 14-Apr-2005 for the MSFC01 switch/router, we will be performing maintenance on the unit on 16-Apr-2005 between 12:00pm (noon) and 4:00pm EST in an attempt to troubleshoot the unit, and locate the faults.

We will be shutting down our BGP session with Peer1 (non-impacting) during this time, to ensure that the maintenance does not result in any "hiccups" for the majority of customers. Customers on the MSFC01 unit should expect to see several intermittent outages ranging from 30 seconds to 3 minutes as the unit will likely have to be reloaded several times during this trouble-shooting period.

This has been attributed to a bug in the Cisco Hybrid IOS, specifically in relation to the HA feature sets (High Availability). We will be removing the redundant Supervisor module (which was only going to be available to this unit temporarily after all, and was only recently implamented) during this process, which may help in isolating the problem.

I'd like to thank everyone for their patience on this issue, and hopefully we can get it all sorted and ironed out on Saturday to prevent any further recurrances, and to get the counters functioning properly again (as I understand better then anybody how important MRTG graphs are to customers, for their own internal use, reflection, and statistical analysis [even discounting our own internal billing needs]).

Regards,
