New Core Router - Core1

Post by porcupine »

Hi guys,

Well I'm quite pleased to announce that we have just acquired a new core router, a Cisco 6503-E/SUP2/PFC2/MSFC2. In the coming weeks, we hope to replace our current Core2 router (Cisco 7206VXR/NPE300) with the new Core1.

This new core router will pave the way for adding additional capacity to our network, and will provide advanced statistics that the MSFC01 and MSFC02 routers currently cannot provide (specific netflow features). We plan to upgrade our TorIX port to gigabit once a spare gigabit port becomes available on the CS-02 TorIX switch.

Hopefully within the next year we'll be able to procure an additional 6503-E router, and get gigabit connectivity (where available/feasible) with all of our upstream providers.

If anyone is looking for a trusty and reliable Cisco 7206VXR (loaded), for a reasonable price (Ebay scope), please shoot me an email, as it will likely be permanently decommissioned due to increasing capacity demands, and our never-ending desire to over-build our core network :).
