Scheduled Network Maintenance - 24-May-2012

Post by porcupine »

Hi Guys,

Please be advised of the following maintenance window:

Maintenance Window: Friday May 24th 2012, 11:59pm - 5:00am EDT
Affected Device: dist02.tor1
Affected Customers: physically connected customers
Service Impacting: Directly connected customers - Yes, Everybody else - Precautionary Notice Only

Details: We will be upgrading the linecards in the dist02.tor1 distribution router. We will be adding a 10 gigabit linecard, replacing the sup2 supervisor engine with a sup720-3B supervisor engine, and replacing all of the Fast Ethernet linecards with Gigabit Ethernet capable linecards. Because the supervisor engine is being replaced, the dist02.tor1 distribution router will need to be rebooted in order for this change to take place.

Physically connected customers can expect to see 2-4 short outages, lasting from 5 to 15 minutes each during this operation while the chassis is rebooted, cards are re-seated, and cables are moved around to accommodate the new linecards, etc. The actual port numbers that customers are connected to, along with their respective MRTG graphs will not change, and customers will not have to update their records in any manner as a result.

Upon completion, this will represent a substantial upgrade to the network capacity of the dist02.tor1 distribution router. This will add 10 gigabit Inter Switch Links to this portion of the network, along with gigabit Ethernet capable ports for all customers, allowing for faster internal connections between servers, additional available throughput, increased network resiliency, etc.

Will you be impacted?: Customers can determine if they are directly connected to the dist02.tor1 distribution router by inspecting the URL for their existing MRTG graphs (which all customers should have retained in their respective records). If your MRTG URL contains the word “dist02.tor1”, you are on the dist02.tor1 distribution router, and you will definitely be directly impacted by this maintenance.
