Suite 818 Migration - 04-Feb-2008 - 29-Feb-2009

Post by porcupine »

Hi Everyone,

As indicated in the email you should have now received, this forum thread has been created to offer a break-down of the physical characteristics, benefits, and changes that are coming with the completion of our new facilities within 151 Front Street West, and our migration from the Switch and Data Toronto, 707/708 suites.

I have provided a factual breakdown of the core differences between the old, and new space, offering insight to the changes we have made to better condition this environment for you, our customers:

Temperature/Environmental:
Old: 14" Raised Flooring, limited perforated tiles (<10% of floor space)
New: 19" Raised flooring, Perforated, and "Super Perforated" panels to control airflow (~20% floor space perforated) for maximum airflow

Old: 6 x 22 ton Glycol Liebert HVAC Units (Shared amongst ~7000 sqft, 1 unit Adjacent), ~1 ton per 53sqft
New: 2 x 30 ton Chilled Water Liebert HVAC Units (dedicated, both adjacent to load). N+1 HVAC configuration, ~1 ton per 25sqft
Future: Capacity for additional 60 tons of HVAC, for 120 tons environmentally friendly HVAC. Final configuration will provide 120 tons of 2N+1 HVAC capacity, ~1 ton per 12.5sqft

- Chilled water HVAC units draw deep-lake water from Lake Ontario through the Enwave system. Enwave provides cost effective chilled water from Lake Ontario with minimal environmental impact. Redundant pumping stations are in the core of downtown Toronto. This solution utilizes considerably less electricity then Glycol based units, with HVAC units which are mechanically simple.

Power Conditioning:

Old: 625KVA UPS shared amongst tenants en-suite, ~100w per sqft power availability
New: Brand New 160KVA Powerware 9390 UPS Unit (newest model). 400A 3 phase 600v Automatic Transfer Unit, W/wrap-around bypass. UPS has full internal, and external maintenance bypass units, ~225w per sqft power availability
Future: Space for identical secondary 160KVA Powerware UPS unit (to be added later). This will allow us to provide full A/B power to all cabinet customers, at no additional cost per circuit (beyond base power costing) once installed.

Old: Power delivery by BX based cables under raised flooring, often coiled/messy.
New: Permanent structured conduit from multiple distribution panels to each cabinet/rack allowing for maximum reliability and airflow.

Security:

Old: CCTV + RFID Keycards + Keycode
New: CCTV + RFID Keycards + Biometric thumb-print scanner

Fire Suppression:

Old: Pre-action dry-pipe water based system, temperature sensitive sprinkler heads
New: Novec1230 (also known as "Sapphire") Synthetic water system. Will not damage equipment, nor people during a discharge. Leaves no residue, and does not conduct electricity. Considerably less ozone depletion then FM200, at a marginal premium.

Connectivity:

Old: Cat5/Fiber Cross-Connects run as required
New: 144 Strand singlemode fiber run directly run to building Meet Me Room. T1/Ethernet services provided through Standard Connections. Network topology will be improved by replacing our 1 x Cisco Catalyst 6009 Switch/Router with 3x Cisco Catalyst 6509 Switch/Routers, however carriers/connectivity will not change.

Stability:
Old: Yearly/Bi-Annual contract, providing fluctuating rates historically
New: Fixed contract terms/pricing W/fixed annual price increases relative to pre-established market conditions. Providing up to 15 years of location/pricing stability, ensuring long-term stability. Direct connectivity to building MMR, with conduit availability for additional runs, ensuring cost effective cross connect services. All Electrical, Environmental, and related items under vendor provided warranty/service plans, providing maximum reliability and stability on a longterm basis.
