Sudden decrease in spam?

Post by Misha »

Hi,

The last week I have had a remarkable decrease in spam in my main account's catchall email. I have gone from something like 1-3,000 junkmails a day (most in my junkmail box) to like 300. Did you implement any new filtering software?? I have done nothing different on my end.

The only other odd email thing is I recently got an old email from an aol email address. It had been sent the 16th of January, and I only got it on February 3rd.

I have implemented a new spam protection thing for my online displayed email a couple months ago. I wouldn't have thought this would affect my current levels of spam much, though.

I have also noticed a sharp decrease in the amount of spam. I'm wondering if the server automatically looks at a block list then bounces suspected spam.

If so, this is not really what I want. I prefer fully unfiltered email delivery.

Can anyone at Priority Colo confirm whether this is happening?

More weird is why did I just receive notification for this reply on October 25, 2011 (of a 2008 reply)?

Typically that happens when we have a forum spammer. By the time most users login to the forums to check the updated thread, we've already banned the spammer, and deleted their posts.

Ah that makes sense. I was wondering if there was a message that had gotten deleted. Spam has been under control btw :).
