WWW4, WWW5, and WWW6 Maintenance

Post by porcupine »

Maintenance will be done on the 3 www servers between the hours of 01:00 AM and 07:00 AM on Saturday March the 8th.

We're going to be peeking in during the wee-hours of the morning to do some maintenance, to compile new kernels and any general modifications that people to need. This will be done in such a manner to minimize downtime for the resellers, and will be done during the wee-hours of the morning to produce the least possible disruption of services. Maintenance will be timed to coincide with the least amount of daily usage based on the MRTG graphs of the previous day, and should result in less then 5 minutes of downtime per server.

Would the kernel update influence the working of software (like f.e. a php update usually does)? If it would it'd be great if you could let me/us know what software you are upgrading so we could inform people ...

Nope,

Kernel upgrades will not usually affect the way software functions, php is totally unrelated to the kernel.

Kernel updates patch security holes, and fix small problems, but generally do not affect other software to a noticable extent.
