www2 Hardware Failure - 28-Jun-05 - 3:30am

Post by porcupine »

Hi guys,

It looks like www2 has had some form of a hardware failure either on the PCI bus, on the PCI riser, or in the NIC, as it's been spitting out continuous errors regarding eth0 (the core network card), and become unresponsive to queries.

This issue is presently being looked at, and hopefully should be resolved shortly, notably before regular work hours begin for the majority of North Americans.

Hi guys,

Just an update; I've replaced the 3com NIC within the www2 server with an Intel Pro 100/S network card, and am in the proces of recompiling the kernel to incorporate the new drivers. Hopefully this should resolve the issue experienced with the NIC.

Hi guys,

Well after some testing, I'm fairly confident in stating that the new NIC and drivers loaded have remedied this problem. I've done one final reboot to bring the server up to the latest 2.4 kernel (as the 2.6 kernels thus far have been presenting absolutly massive performance issues for the www2 server for some odd reason), and everything appears to be running smoothly once again.

Thank you all for your patience.
