Scheduled Tor2 network maintenance - 13-Feb-2020

Post by porcupine »

Hi Folks,

Please be advised of the following maintenance window:

Maintenance Window: Thursday February 13th, 2020, 12:01am - 2:00am Eastern Time.
Facility: Tor2
Affected Device(s): core03.tor2
Affected Customers: Tor2 BGP customers physically connected to the core03.tor2 router.
Service Impacting: Yes - Customers physically connected to the core03.tor2 router will see services impacted during this maintenance window. This maintenance activity is not expected to significantly impact customers whose equipment is not directly connected to the core03.tor2 router.

Details: We will be replacing the supervisor card in the core03.tor2 core router. The card in question has already been tested in our test chassis, but will need to be fully reconfigured upon insertion into core03.tor2. During this time, several routing tweaks to the network will also be applied, as the hardware capabilities & configuration will have changed. We will be gracefully shutting down all BGP sessions to core03.tor2 at the beginning of the maintenance window to minimize customer impact.

This maintenance is expected to impact customers who are physically/directly connected to the core03.tor2 core router (aka customers who do their own routing VIA BGP). For the remainder of the customer base, while we do not expect considerable impact from this work, this maintenance window should be considered precautionary, as changes are being made within the network core.

Please note that customers connected to other devices in the Tor2 facility (IE: dist03.tor2, dist04.tor2, core04.tor2) may experience short periods of packet loss/jitter/etc. as BGP paths change, BGP sessions are torn-down/re-established, and routes/paths re-converge during the maintenance work. Customers in the Tor1 facility should not see any impact to their services as a result of said maintenance.
