UPS-B.tor2 UPS maintenance - 08-Jan-2025 - 10:00am - 11:30am

Hi Folks,
Please be advised of the following maintenance window:
Maintenance Window: Wednesday January 8th, 2025 10:00am - 11:30am Eastern Time
Facility: Tor2
Affected Device: UPS-B.tor2
Affected Customers: Tor2 Dedicated/Colocated customers fed from UPS-B.tor2
Service Impacting: No - Precautionary Notice Only
Details: All of the Tor2 UPS batteries were replaced during the previous maintenance on 28-Oct-2024. As the UPS plants started to charge, normalize, and perform their automated load-based testing against the new battery strings, UPS-B.tor2 alerted PC staff to a catastrophically failed battery on the morning of 13-Nov-2024.
This issue required immediate correction, and per the tweets sent out in real-time ( VIA https://www.twitter.com/pcolomaint/ ), PC staff with the help of our electrical contractors identified, removed the failed battery on the spot, and arranged for a return to manufacturer. The battery string in question has been successfully operating with one fewer battery since then, and is operating within the nominal capacity/voltage range [with 39/40 batteries present. a 2.5% reduction in voltage].
We received the replacement battery in early December, and have been waiting for the holiday season to conclude before scheduling this maintenance, per internal policy (given the UPS plant is still operating normally/in fully protected mode). With the holiday season coming to a close, it's time to replace the failed battery in question.
We expect this maintenance activity to be brief, the UPS is expected to be on bypass for less than 15 minutes, while the battery cabinet is isolated, the new battery is added to the string, and the UPS is brought back into normal mode.
While we do not expect this to be a service impacting maintenance, the UPS unit in question will be operating on bypass, and should utility power fail at this time, there will be an interruption in services as the Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) switches power from utility to generator. As such, this should be considered a precautionary maintenance window.
Regards,
