02-Mar-2005 - SW01 precautionary maintenance period

Post by porcupine »

Hi guys,

We will be performing maintenance on the sw01 switch, on Saturday February 26th, 2005, between 11:00am, and 7:00pm.

We will be perparing the sw01 switch to be relocated further up the rack it's presently on, as well as the patch panels that the switches connections travel through. We will most likely not be physically moving the switch on Saturday, but some of the surrounding equipment will be relocated. We will also be re-cabling the switch with longer power cables (one power cable at a time obviously, to ensure power is not lost), as the switch will be moving further from its current power sources.

When the switch is physically moved, it will be moving vertically to the top of the current rack, using a rack-mount shelf and several jacks to ensure its smoothly moved while live. This will provide space for our new 6k series Cisco Catalyst, and some new cable management panels to help re-organize wiring between the patch panels. This will be replacing one of the secondary 5500 switches.

We do not expect any downtime during this maintenance period, this is simply a precautionary notice. At no time do we expect the sw01 switch loose connectivity, or power.

Hi guys,

Well yesterdays maintenance period went without any major bugs, and most of the prep work has been completed as hoped (though progress was indeed slow as expected).

We will be performing further maintenance to SW01 as indicated on 02-Mar-2005. The window will extend from 4:00pm on 02-Mar-2005, to 6:00am on 03-Mar-2005. Again, this is a precautionary window, just like the first, where no downtime is expected.

During this period, we will be relocating SW01, along with the patch panels that it connects through up to the top of their respective racks, from their respective positions in the 2/3 high range in the racks. This will be performed with some spreader jacks, and several shelves to ensure that the switch is raised slowly, and mechanically; seriously reducing the risk of human error causing service outages.

We will not be rusing this maintenance period for obvious reasons, thus this may spill over to a third, and final precautionary maintenance window if need be. Once again, we do not expect to see any outages as a result this, or any other related maintenance, unless otherwise posted.

Ok guys,

Well the other maintenances have gone smoothly, and lets hope this last one does also. Slow and steady are definatly winning the race in this case.

Today (Friday March 4th), between 10:30am and 4:30pm we will be pushing SW01 up the rack and into its final position. Again, we expect no downtime from this, this is simply a precautionary maintenance window. Lets hope we can get this all tied up today :).
